For many many years Bill and I have traveled I-75 from Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario) to the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. We have always kept our eyes peeled for large birds in the area we referred to as "The Flats" Some very lucky times we would see Snowy Owls. In recent years we have made our search more intentional. Today, the first day of 2017 we went on a Photo Safari to see if the Snowy Owls have decided to spend their winter in Michigan this year, and it looks like they did!

Our first sighting of the day was this amazing owl. If a snowy owl is spotted/speckled it is either a female or a juvenile.

I'm not super excited to shoot photos of snowy owls on electrical poles (where they often can be found) but this fella is such a beauty. This is a fine example of a Male.
